Tourism impacts on retail

Our research uncovered the correlation between tourism and retail in various Dutch cities. After all, tourists also make use of facilities which are not particularly tourism-related, such as supermarkets, clothes shops or hairdressing salons. At the same time, facilities which may be labelled as specific tourism facilities (restaurants, pavement cafés, ice-cream parlours) are also used by local residents.

Learn about the extent to which retailers depend on tourism expenditure, and how many jobs this produces per type of shop, as well as the differences across the various cities.
