Agenda Conscious Destinations

Contributing to conscious destinations with impactful research projects

CELTH has put together a multi-year knowledge agenda for the hospitality domain and will invest one and a half million euros in it over the next three years. Knowledge on five urgent themes is being developed around this Conscious Destination Agenda (ABB). (Knowledge) partners are challenged to co-invest and thereby strengthen the much-needed knowledge foundation under the hospitality domain.

5 Core themes for the Agenda Conscious Destinations

In the ABB, the conscious destination comes first. CELTH expressly opts for the destination level because that is where all the different sub-sectors and actors come together. At the destination, hospitality and value is created for tourists, residents and companies. In a Conscious Destination, parties strive for an outcome in which the hospitality domain has the most positive possible social, ecological and economic impact and in which it leads to the highest possible quality of life, experience and work.

What choices does a Conscious Destination make?

In a Conscious Destination, the social value of the hospitality domain is put first. All actors work on the most positive possible economic, social and ecological impacts for residents (quality of life), visitors (quality of experiences) and professionals within the domain (quality of work).

CELTH sees that its approach to integrally optimising a destination is gaining more and more support and expects that this will dominate in the (near) future, not only in the Netherlands but worldwide.

The ABB acts as a guideline for CELTH's knowledge and education partners to develop new relevant knowledge and skills for destinations in line with the issues of Perspective 2030. CELTH is thus giving substance to the advice 'Valuable Tourism' of the Council for the Living Environment and Infrastructure (Rli) that the current political and policy-related attention in the Netherlands is disproportionate to the great economic and social significance of the hospitality domain and that the current knowledge base is thin.
