Using GPS to track visitor behavior in tourism

To gain a deeper understanding of the geographical visitor journey GPS tracking could offer a solution. It could help to answer questions such as where do visitors go, how long do they stay and where and what kind of routes do visitors follow. The advantage of GPS tracking is that it concerns the actual behavior of people and provides quite specific locational (historical) data.

We investigate which method of GPS tracking is most promising. We particularly focus on GPS tracking via a purpose-made GPS tracking device and smartphone mobile applications with a GPS tracking function.

The project is part of the Data & Development Lab in which CELTH cooperates with NBTC and CBS.

This project is currently in development.
