Professional Doctorate programme in Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality

Companies and actors in Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality are facing major challenges. Strong global growth, interconnectedness with other sectors and the need for sustainability lead to complex innovation issues. The COVID-19 crisis adds to the urgency: a re-evaluation of existing growth models is needed to increase resilience of destinations and the sector. 

New study programme: practice-oriented doctorate degree in Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality

The challenges mentioned require advanced expertise and the development and testing of new concepts, theories, and business and revenue models. For this purpose, Dutch universities of applied sciences have developed a new education and knowledge infrastructure: a higher level of applied research professionals, the Professional Doctorate. Universities of applied sciences offering leisure, tourism and hospitality degree programmes and CELTH together have developed the Professional Doctorate educational profile. This will allow practice-oriented research talents in the sector to drive innovation even better. This is an important development in strengthening the knowledge infrastructure and contribution to innovation.
